For Prospective Graduate Students:
How do you know where to go to graduate school?
How do you know who to work with?
Your advisor and the students you are in school with determine a great deal of your experience, and how that experience translates into success. A graduate student looking for a program should first focus on an advisor who is likely to launch you in your field. Such an advisor will have mentored graduate students who are successful, and feel that their success is, in part, due to their mentoring. Much of our mentoring in graduate school, however, also comes from the community of scholars in our labs, our degree programs, and our university at large.
